Oboe, Horn and Piano

I created these oboe, horn and piano arrangements for
Trio Arundel. Our ensemble found early on that the wealth of vocal duos for soprano and tenor offered a rich source for arrangements, since the soprano range corresponds so well with the range of the oboe, and the tenor range with that of the horn. These pieces are wonderful to perform by themselves on a recital program, or to include on a full trio recital in order to expand the number of eras and musical styles represented, and to offer some familiar composer names to the general audience!

Two Horns and Piano

The repertoire for two horns with piano is somewhat limited, and consists mostly of difficult baroque and classical duo-concertos (in which the piano plays the orchestra reduction), and a small number of excellent contemporary works such as
Andrea Clearfield’s Into the Falcon’s Eye and Randall Faust’s Three American Folk Songs. My aim in presenting these arrangements is to expand the range of pieces for two horns and piano - to provide duos that are not especially difficult technically but are musically satisfying. I hope that these pieces will be utilized by hornists in many different circumstances: by students, who may appreciate the camaraderie and moral support of performing with another horn player; by professional players sharing a recital with a colleague in a conference or guest artist situation; and by avocational players for enjoyment.

Horn Choir (Horn Ensemble)

I fell in love with the medium of horn choir as a student at Eastman. Conducted by my teacher, Verne Reynolds, and performing many of his Cantos arrangements, the Eastman Horn Choir was a formative musical experience for me. Because many colleges and universities have horn ensembles that include all the horn students in the studio, and because there are also many community horn ensembles that include pre-college and recreational players, I have consciously selected music to arrange that is suitable for hornists of all levels.
