Arundel Music

These pieces are lyrical and somewhat heroic in character. They are from "Four Double-Choir Songs", op. 141, composed in 1849. They can be performed separately or as a set, with one player per part or multiple players per part.

There is bass clef in the 4th and 8th parts. The range is from g# at the top of the staff for 1st horn to pedal g for 8th horn (with optional 8va on the very low parts). Aside from the necessity for at least two players to have fine low registers, the writing is not technically difficult.

One of Dvorak's Moravian Folksongs. Dvorak himself presented this music in several different arrangements, including choral ensemble and duet with piano. It is straightforwardly tuneful with nice harmonic interest.

This arrangement is for two horn choirs of 4 parts each. The 4th parts of both choirs contain bass clef. Range: high G in both 1st horn parts; pedal G in the 4th horn part of Choir 2 (optional 8va). This piece will be very approachable and enjoyable for most all horn players!

All 8 voices in this piece are extremely independent. This is true polyphony that flows to a powerful moment near the end of the piece when all the voices move together homophonically. It requires at least 8 players who can play confidently and soloistically with no other voices to "latch on" to. Although each individual part is not technically difficult, this piece will come off best with a mature ensemble made up of players of equal strengths.

Range: low C in the 4th and 8th parts; high A in the 1st and 5th parts.
