Cynthia Carr has more than 25 years of experience as a professional horn performer and teacher. She is currently teaching at Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, and has also held faculty positions at Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin and the University of Delaware, where she rose to the rank of full professor. She has performed in the horn sections of many orchestras, including the Philadelphia Orchestra and the Symphonies of Delaware, Honolulu, Indianapolis, Memphis, Milwaukee, Savannah, and Toledo. For twelve seasons, she was second horn with the Opera Company of Philadelphia orchestra. She holds degrees from the Eastman School of Music and Florida State University; her major teachers were Verne Reynolds, William Capps, and Froydis Wekre.

Ms. Carr’s research interests include music by women composers, and
music for oboe, horn and piano trio. She and pianist Julie Nishimura have recorded a CD of music by women composers. Cynthia Carr is a founding member of Trio Arundel with her husband, oboist Timothy Clinch, and Julie Nishimura. The ensemble has commissioned several works, performed widely in the United States in recital, and also traveled to Watford, England in 2004 to perform as a representative of the Wilmington, Delaware Sister Cities program.

Cynthia Carr has published articles and reviews in
Horn Call, Double Reed Journal, Journal of the International Alliance for Women in Music, and the Journal of the International Women’s Brass Conference. She has performed on four continents, and at regional and international conferences of the Horn Society, Double Reed Society, Tuba Congress, and Trumpet Guild. She has recorded with the Philadelphia Orchestra, Rekkenze Brass, and can be heard alongside Marian Hesse on the Chestnut Brass Company’s CD “Hornsmoke - Music of Peter Schickele,” which won a Grammy award in 2000 for Best Classical Crossover album.
